Odometer broken glass was created by Daanio
undefined Hi all, on my new kz1000j bike the glass in the odometer is broken. That odometer seems sealed or glued. On fb someone suggested to disc it open with a Dremel which im alsof thinking about. Probleem seems i cannot reach all the seams with the Dremel. Any tips?

Most KZ meters aren't meant to be disassembled & you may be going into uncharted territory in this case. Only suggestion I have is to start prying from the back side to see if you can pop it open. The best analogy I can think of is a TV remote control that doesn't work >> you can pry them apart but doing so causes some damage to the shell (I used a painters 6-in-1 tool).

ps: a 1000J is kind of a desirable model, so I'd consider getting a junk one off of EB for practice. I saw one that was pretty cheap, comparatively speaking, but its glass was also broken. assuming you can't find a good replacement.

Yup well i got the easy side loose but that is only one out of 4 sides. I did use the Dremel. Problem is I cant get the other sides because there is a lip and some more problems. Im sure that when aI pry it I will break the plastic. Tried heating it but it makes the plastic weak.

I am sorry, my mistake. Still, I would use a dremmel only as a very last resort. What adhesive are you planning to use to seal it back up?

Oops...metric, aha! :S

I disassembled one of these, and kept it around for a spare until it landed in a dumpster three years ago. I used an Xacto knife to cut, and pried in several places along the seam with something else, and somehow avoided mangling the case in the process. It would have been ideal case to transfer internal workings, and reassemble with two-part epoxy.

I got it fixed. I cut out a small piece of glass, assembled with the rubbers but without that glass plate holder and siliconed it. I sealed it with high tack silicone. Didn't have 2k glue laying around . Its not moving so Im good. Can use different glue if it comes loose but doubt it.
