I'm trying to identify my main wiring harness so I can order a replacement. I've looked at some pics of '78 models and the harness looks nothing like what I have. The wiring was a real mess when I got the bike and I was able to repair it enough to get the bike running. I have since added a rev limiter, volt regulator, coil mod and fuse box, I'd just like to replace the main harness to clean it up a bit. I'm not sure what to do here!

What is your bike serial number?

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

I just rechecked the paperwork. The bike is actually a '79 model. The manufacturing date is 12/78. frame # is KZT 00B-520316. It's strange that the engine is not a mark II and it uses the early style tank and side covers

That serial number says it's an LTD model but it has signals connected to the headlight and the long front fender, which are not LTD features. Normally an LTD would have signals on the handlebars and a short front fender. And as you point out, the engine isn't a MK2 and doesn't have smog ports.

I believe the LTD main loom is a bit different than the A model in the way the signals are connected. But if you buy one for the A model you can probably adapt it.

I checked the number and it looks like it was originally an LTD model. I'm not sure, but I believe the LTD uses a different wiring harness. I don't believe they're available.

The fact that it's not available is probably why the current one is chopped up.

I have a 1980 LTD and I bought a new harness for it. Don't remember where though. Do you have a wiring diagram for the bike?

The 1980 LTD wiring is quite different, mainly in the ignition area. The 1979 A3 wiring harness shows a different number but it would probably be close to yours and wouldn't require much modification. Here is the wiring diagram for the B3. (your bike)
