Yeah, it sat up to 4 months before I got my hands on it and I don't know how long before that. I'm planning on getting new gas later today. When I do that, should I take off and drain the carbs so they don't supply old gas?

Yeah, old gas is never good.
There is a possibility you may be cleaning the carbs out.
Old gas tends to clog passages.
But go get some new gas and try that.

I got one for the records... My boat sat in storage for close to 12 years. Upon resurrection we found out that it had 68 gallons of fuel in it... we drained some out and it looked good. poured it on the ground and ignited it and burned out completely... to make a long story short. we have been on the river twice with the 12 year old gas and running great... After we used up a 1/4 tank we added 2 cans of 108 octane booster and topped of the tank with 92 octane fuel and looking forward to the 3rd trip out this weekend... Amazing.

Old gas in a fuel tank, especially if there's a lot of it, can be fine. However, old gas in a carb lets stuff settle out over time into jets. etc. and can (and often will) cause problems. I had that issue about 35 years ago when I let the bike sit unstarted over the winter with fuel in the carbs; it took a thorough carb cleaning to eliminate the problem. Since then I have found that running the bike's engine for 10 or 15 minutes each week, even over the winter, prevents any fuel related problems. I've been doing this for a couple decade+ and have not had any fuel related problems. Ed

old gas....i'd maybe burn it in an old lawn mower.
It may work ok as an accelerant, but calling for a tow is not as much fun especially on the water.

I did have to dispose of 20 gallons of 15 year old gas.
Not easy as there was only one place in Dallas(( www.dallascounty.org/departments/plandev/hhw/ ) just in case anyone lives there now) that took it, and they took the antifreeze as well.
I try to be smart and load up on Stabil anytime something will have to sit.

You should clean the contact surfaces of the points with a small jewelers file or sandpaper.

Hello again!

Been real busy for a few days so I haven't been able to work of the bike, but I did get the bike running, but only if a continuous stream of starter fluid is sprayed down the throttle body. Looks like I'm going to be researching how to clean the carbs, or if not how to fully disassemble them, then how to clean the jets.

There's plenty of stuff out there on the internet in addition to your trusty service manual.
It's pretty easy. Just take your time.
You can grab an ultrasonic machine at harbor freight if you don't want to use the nasty stuff.
I just used hot water and a photography chemical. Hot water on it's own works pretty good.
Just read the reviews on the machine. As with most stuff at harbor freight, it needs a little modification as well as the extended warranty.
Best of luck!
