The ignitor unit calulate the ignition sequence and advance. The special shaped rotor do the reference impuls (#1 cyl.) for the ignitor unit.

Correct, according to my Haynes manual all the ZR models use this single pulse / pickup coil method. On mine it is just like the pic from Scirocco.

Your wiring diagram looks correct as near as I can tell. I referenced the Haynes Manual zr550 wiring diagram as well as the mapping mentioned earlier in this thread of what zr550 wires map to what SPII wires.

Black to ground = good
Red to power = good

White and Green to pick up coil = good

Red/Yellow to 2/3 ign. coil ground = good
Yellow to 1/4 ign. coil ground = good

So, I installed the SPII system on the weekend and she is alive! Lucky during the process I checked the reg/rec and found it faulty and over charging the battery (I was using an old battery and jumper cables so no harm done). So I have disconnected the charge circuit awaiting a new reg/rec.
I then re-checked all fluids, bolt torques, tyre pressure and all over check. Then took her for a series of short rides and wow I am super happy! As Zaddict says, ridiculously easy to start and short time needing the choke.
I need to figure out the best timing setting as she is a bit rough at lower revs and under load up hills. Plus, I only had the standard spark plus so have ordered some Iridium plugs, once I have those in I will play with the settings. Any advice on setting the timing will be appreciated;
• Stock Motor
• Air-box totally gone and pod filters
• Exhaust is stock front collectors and then a stainless slip on muffler
• 1 size up on main jets

Thank you to Zaddict for your help!

That’s great to hear . A dyno tune would be ideal. I haven’t managed to get a useful one yet - surprisingly hard to find a good tuner near SF. I’ve just been trying all the curves. My butt dyno tells me +4 to +6 advance works best.

You may need to adjust your jetting further. Going up just one size on the mains with pods doesn’t seem like enough. Factory Pro makes a Stage 3 jet kit for the zr550. Might want to check that out. Corey Clough has run that setup before - maybe he has jetting suggestions for you.

Are your carbs running stock internals, other than the one size up main jet? If you are running pod filters, you will need a jet kit. Dynojet works for me. This will get you there, but tuning on a dyno will be recommended for fine tuning. Tune for the correct air/fuel, not the top end number. You want "rideability".
