Where to get a new key was created by kawikz83
My key broke in half on my 83 1100LTD. Before I go an pay a locksmith place a bunch of money, is there any repro keys available for a reasonable price? And how do I find the key code on the bike? Thanks!

The code on my 80 kz1000 is stamped into the outside of the ignition cylinder. You need to take it out of the housing to see it. I bought my bike without a key(owner couldn't find it). I took the code to a local locksmith and he produced a key from the code. Cost me 30$

This thread has a lot of good info.

I've had a bunch of kz keys made from codes. All the locksmiths seem to have the data needed, although the price varies a lot. I've paid between $12 and $50. Call around I guess.

All the lock cylinders on the bike should have the code stamped into them. Try the seat lock first. It's much easier to get at. The OE keys also typically have the code stamped on them.

There is a guy on ebay who cuts older kawasaki keys..

As the poster's above have stated the code is usually on the key itself or cylinder

He has the key blanks so you send him the code he cuts the key and mails it to you

Hope this helps

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationA hardware store might be able cut a key for you, but they may need a good key to copy off of as they may not be able to cut one from a code.
ILCO probably has a blank that's a good match for your Kawasaki key, whatever type or shape it is. An ILCO KA14 X103 is almost an exact match for my 1981 KZ650 key. I did not see it in their current motorcycle catalog, but there are blanks listed on EB.

Locksmiths can be cheaper than going to a hardware store for getting a new key.
