KZ750b3 Ignition Switch was created by fugly
My 1978KZ750b3 was purchased with a defective switch
Has anyone replaced the ignition switch on a 1978 KZ750B3 (five wire)with an Emgo aftermarket (six wire) switch? The Emgo switch does'nt work without moving the switch wires. I have reserched salvage yards for the correct switch but to no avail. Also the Emgo switch will not let the bike charge. The original switch will charge the bike, just don't plan on getting out of the driveway.

Any clues would be appreciated

I have several other Kaw switches, won't work. Also the really neat part is I am color blind ( an ohm meter is my best friend) Kawaski tells me the switch is unavailable and only fits my bike and one other.

Try this guy. He has all kinds of out-of-stock stuff.

If all else fails, I can show you how to hotwire it.

Good Luck

If all else fails you could drive a hour or so south and get this 78 KZ750 twin frame with triple clamps (including ignition switch) out of my garage. :D

Okay, I just went out to the garage and found my EMGO replacement switch. I never tried to install it because I took apart the old one and cleaned it up, then reinstalled it. So, this is the first time I looked at the EMGO switch. I was suprised to find out it also has 6 wires!. SO, wehn my son gets home from work with the 750, I will take a look at the 6 pin connector to see where the differance is. Right off the bat, I do not see a yellow wire on the EMGO. The EMGO also has 2 whites? Fugly, we'll figure this out dude.

this is for my 79 KZ650. this ignition was flickering in and out when I was riding last week so last night I pulled it apart to investigate.

This is the first time I have posted here, but I have been reading this site for over a year know. I hope you appreciate all the photos.

dude, thats exactly what I did pulling it apart. I had a simular problem. I took some fine grit sand paper and cleaned off all the spindal contacts and copper contacts. Was good as new afterwards.

Oh yeah, just in case you want to hotwire it without the switch. Just connect the brown, white and yellow together. Then connect the red and blue together. I guess you could rig this to a couple toggle switchs if needed.

I just checked the Zedder cross-reference, and it looks like the ignition switch for your bike was used on the 76-79 twins, as well as the 77 KZ650B1.

...for what it's worth...
