MOTOGADGET M-UNIT BOX // KZ400 diagram was created by Kodymadro
My first topic on this was earlier this summer. I started using the M-unit on some of my builds. i have since done a few and have it down pretty good but figured i make a thread with a diagram a made and any info that any one installing this might come across...

MOTOGADGET makes some pretty rad stuff if you're doing a cafe build and want to go for that really clean look with some updated tech... They make the M-UNIT which is a no brainer if you are rewiring your kawasaki... dumbs down the whole process into a user friendly wiring experience (we all know what a headache it can be)!!

Here is a wiring diagram for the Kawasaki KZ400

Thanks for posting this, I'll be wiring up a 78 KZ400 later on this year and haven't determined if I'll try to re-use the factory harness, strip it down and replace as necessary or go complete custom. This may sway me.

Which KZ400s have you done? Earlier (74-76) or later? And which does this schematic apply to? Wondering about the differences in stator and regulator/rectifiers.

I have a 75 kz400 and also installed a m unit basic but am having trouble getting the starter to spin. when I hit the start button all I hear is the solenoid click but no power gets to the starter. I tested the starter and it works. Also Im not sure if I have the ignition correct. I wired the yellow/red wire coming out of the coils to the ignition of the m unit and the black wire coming out of the coils left it alone which goes to the points. I see that in your diagram the coil is wired to itself with the brown wire? Can you explain this. I would really appreciate some help guys.

Thank you

You might want to check the state of your stand input. It will keep you from starting if the m-unit thinks the stand is in the up position.

Hi Richard,
Turod2g figured it out.. The post was deleted because of site maintenance.
It was a disconnected starter cable.
