an hour of straight riding should have done it
have you checked voltage output with a meter? should be between 13.5 and 15.5 at 2k rpm

It will take it longer than a ride around the block. The ride around the block was problem done at speeds just under idle. At idle, your regulator will cause about 12.5 VDC to hit the battery which isn't really going to charge it. You need about 14VDC to get that battery recharged and this comes at 4K rpm or so... get out on the highway and ride it some at speed. The longer you ride, the more it will charge so if you ride 3 miles at 60 mph and come home, it will charge a little bit but not much... ride 30 miles and you will likely have a pretty full charge if it is discharged. You could also go to the autoparts store and get a "trickle charger" - these put out only about 1/2 AMP and are little small chargers meant for a motorcycle. Mine is about 6" long and about 3 inches high. I think they should cost about $25-30. The only setting will be 6 or 12 Volts... keep it on 12V and charge overnight... A car charger will fry your battery. Get one with less than an amp of current for charging. Make sure the battery acid is up to the line indicated on the battery. If it is low, use DISTILLED water as tap water will ruin your battery in no time. It has minerals that stick to the plates... then they short.

ok , went out today and rode for about 2o min, then it started acting like its to rich or lean!

rode back up my rode and it sputterd like it had no power, measured the volts on batery and only have 8 volts now, started with 12!

what to check first??

start with cleaning all connectora and grounds any of them can prevent charging

Amperage charges batteries Amperage not Voltage. everyone remember if you are not checking for charging current(amps)at the battery, the voltage reading will be a FALSE indicator of your charging system and regulator condition.

Motorcycle charging systems are not designed to charge your battery. It is designed to only cover the electrical loads while running.

maitnence charging is required.

charging rate for a 14 - 16 amp hour battery is safe at 2 amp charge 6-8 hours.

higher settings 6 or 10 amps must be monitored for the prevention of heat or boil over. these batteries are delicate compared to bigger automobile batteries.

they warp plates really easy and you wont notice except the thing goes weak.

But voltage forces current. If the battery is not damaged, sufficient voltage applied to it produces the current to recharge the battery. A battery charger charges the battery the same way the bike does. It applies a voltage to the terminals higher than the ambient voltage of the battery. This forces current through the battery, recharging it.
