I have just bought a kz 650 1978 and am in the process of getting her running. Unfortunatly i broke the key and want to get her running before i buy a new ignition. I was wonder what wires i need to hook up to my toggle switch to get power to everything. thanks

The ignition switch has a bunch of wires routed through it. You could start the bike just jumping the ignition and starter circuits, but then you would not have lights. You could also simply remove the ignition switch from the mount (go though the bottom, behind the headlight), and remove the lock mechanism, then turn the ignition switch with a screwdriver.

Apeman is right, you will not have lights without rewiring. There should be three wires to the ignition switch if I'm correct, don't have a 650 wiring diagram. I had a generic Autozone toggle switch on mine before I put the keyed ignition back on, I connected white (load) and brown (supply) to the toggle switch that should do the trick. Keep some fuses handy I'm no electrician

If I remember correctly, everything gets hooked together except either one of the white wires. Then the white wire will be on either side of the toggle switch.

I couldnt see clearly enough while browsing for the pic but heres what you should (might) have

I cut some short strands of wire and put bullet connectors on them that way it's easy to switch back.

Here are 2 links to a wiring diagram for your bike also

You can print them out and tape them side by side for an easy to read diagram
