Then it all went Black was created by idkrash
I just rebuilt the starter motor on my '82 GPz, KZ750 R. I got the bike to start on its own, but the starter motor makes a tinny whine when its working. I only engage it for a very short time. It will start after a couple of trys and usually pretty quickly after I press the start button.

I went around the block a couple of times. Then the whole thing went black. The engine died immediately when the lights turned off the engine stopped firing. Right now I've got an o.k. battery, but nothing happens when I turn the key on.

I have a cheap multimeter, and I've checked the following:
Starter switch, all the connections read ok.
Battery reading 11 Volts.
Starter relay, 11 Volts passing through. Ohms tests also o.k.

Starter lockout switch, Shows zeroish ohms. (When set to 1 Ohm scale, this meter reads 1, then dropping ohms to 003 or 001 when leads are connected directly together. A better meter would probably read zero.) When I pull the clutch with the leads connected to the 2 black wires leading to the starter lockout switch the meter drops like the leads were touching. I guess that means the starter lockout switch is working correctly.

Which end should I continue testing from? Battery out to the starter switch or starter switch back to the battery?

Start with the easy stuff first FUSES. I blew a main on my bike 2 weeks ago and left me standing on the side of the road scratching my head no lights no power HMM blown fuse maybe?? after some simple checking and a little rigging i was on my way to the parts store to get some fuses

Yeah I was hopin it would be a fuse, but they all check out so far. The only one that wasn't reading well turned out to be an accessory connection. The main and the two others in the same connector box with the main all check out.

I polished the connections for the accessory link and it woke up too. I get off work in about an hour and I'll be poking around the electrical system again.

I'm assuming that if the charging system (alternator, etc.) is dead that I should still get a charge from teh battery to the head light, turn signal, and control panel. Am I wrong?
