Sounds like your timing is too far advanced. Check the base timing and also check that your advancer doesn't stick on full advance. It would help though if you would but the year/model of your bike in your signature line.

lachan41774 - click on your own profile and then go to the "signature" area and modify it so that it reflects your bike year/model... this will help every time someone looks at one of your questions. thanks!

My lawn mower doesn't yank the starter rope out of my hand if I prime it on cold mornings ;-)

If it's characteristic of cold start for that model and not a 'problem' it may help to prime. kick it over a few times with full choke but with ignition off. This prevents early ignition from lean mix in the cold engine.

Check your timing as stated earlier, I time mine so that it will just kick back at me alittle, that is were she seems to run her best. but if you set it per the FSM you should never have a problem with it kicking back at you. I also ease the kicker over 4 times with full choke and the petcock on, then kick and she comes to life.

as for your starter check out the other post in this forum for a link to a starter clutch rebuild kit and other tips.
