Did I fry My igniter? was created by Grantl
I recently charged my battery without disconnecting the positive lead.(I know, this is dumb) Now I don't get any consistent spark to the plugs. I checked the ohms reading coming from the IC Igniter and I think its trashed. The voltmeter should read 400-500 ohms across the red/yellow circuit and 400-500 ohms across the blue/black circuit. I get 300 across the yellow/red and out of feild limits on the blue/black. Is there anything else i can try before buying an expensive replacement part?
Thanks.

Do you have a relay going to it first? I replaced my ignitor only to find it was a $20 relay not giving it full voltage to fire.

Thanks for your comment,
I looked in my (pathetic) Clymer manual and I see an Ignition Coil "resistor" listed. It says to check for 1.7 ohms across the connectors. Is this possibly the component you were refering to?

I suppose that could be it but I'm not sure. My wiring diagram did not even show the relay. I had just found it and couldn't figure out what it did, tested and seemed bad. Traced back the wiring and what do ya know, it went to the ignitor.
See what you can find with the "resistor" that is shows. Maybe someone familiar with it will chime in.
