Replacing coil plug wires

I want to cut my old coil wires back and splice in new stuff. Is there any particular requirement other than 7mm wire that I have to meet in buying them? Can I just go to an auto dealer and grab a four wire set or bulk plug wire? I bought new caps last year, so I will be screwing them on.

on the gs1000 the old wires were cracked and brittle all the way to the coil. I cut away the epoxy and replaced the old wires. used 3-m super weatherstrip cement AKA gorilla snot to hold the new wires. works great.

I was wondering the same thing. I know that the automotive wires have some stuff in them that helps shield them so as not to creat radio or elctronic interference. But I thought that also created more resistance which might cause a weaker spark. Anyone know the answer, or am I just smoking crack and shouldn't worry about it?

IMO you do not want resistor core wire because it is not as rugged as the stuff with the stranded wire core and doesn't work well with the screw on boots. The resistor core stuff is difficult to splice.

Yeah, All the Kawaisaki stuff I've encountered used real metal wires with the resistor function provided in the plug cap, if called for. I think you can do credible job of splicing on new wires to coils with nonremovable wires if you use some RTV and shrink tubing.
