Again...

Keeps shorting ever since I change bars.. Me. Mechanice screwed with it at length and could inly come with a kinked wire..We'll that provide about of month of care free riding..

Any easy fixes?

What year/model is your bike?
If it has an on/off switch on teh right switch pod, then it might be shorting out right where it exits the pod.

The fuse shorted out. And Seth (Mr. Mechanic) spent several hours previously hunting the short - never found it but straighted a couple of wires..and there was light..

How difficult is it to hard wire the light to the ignition switch? I am pretty sure the current problem lies in the existing lightswitch mechanism

Easy.... My short was/is somewhere between the fuse and the light...believed to be the handlebar switch/control.. I bought some 14 guage wire..could have used 12... and tested with roach clips the new circut. :) bought a couple conectors and wala.

DEtails

Cut the wire exiting from the fuse.

Connected new wire to fuse wire.

Route wire to head light.

Add single pole plug.

Disconnect the two red wires from the headlight plug. The head plug (black) is connected to the wiring harness and the 3 prongs on the headlight. The plug is connected to the harness with single pole plugs/sockets. Disconnect red wires. The black is a ground.

Connect new routed wired with new pug the either empty socket.

Add 10 amp fuse.

Tape as you feel necessary..

WALA.

head light works when ignition is switch is turned on (only). ;)

best of luck...

I bypassed a headlight/switch short (once) just like your's.
It worked fine but had problems with the battery running down/low from starting and making short trips with the headlight/taillight on.
I spliced in a toggle switch on the hot line to the light. That made all the difference.

good luck
:)
