headlight upgrades

I bought a HID upgrade and it was a direct replacement for my stock sealed beam. Boy oh boy is it wonderful compared to stock bulb.

Why not use the 80/100w bulb and use a relay connected directly to the battery? I understand that it is bright and you would need two relays. But is there another reason that I am not thinking of?

Well, you're limited by what our puny alternators will provide. If you stay with stock wattage and use a higher tech (and brighter) bulb from someone like PIAA then you shouldn't have too many problems. Higher wattage bulbs will tax your alternator and can melt wiring, unless of course, you allow for this and upgrade the needed bits. All in all, an H4 conversion with PIAA's super plasma is probably the easiest upgrade for bright light - admittedly its not the cheapest option.

That's not HID.

Don't do the same thing I did. I replaced the stock 55/60 H4 with a 90/100, and it was a lot dimmer. Then I bought a 80/100, and it wasn't any better. Can't power those higher wattage bulbs with the same system that is only able to power a 55/60, unless some wiring modifications are done. :S
