Too long charging damage a battery?

I couldn't find anything relevant to my question in the archives. New battery last spring. I added the distilled water/acid myself, gave it a complete charge and rode all year no prob. This winter I have been giving it about 10 hours at a 2 amp trickle charge (2/10/50 amp charger)every month to 6 weeks. The other day I forgot about unplugging it and the battery took the 2 amp charge for about 24-30 hours. The battery was/is not in the bike and now reads 12.23-12.25 V on the 12v Battery test setting on my multimeter. What are the odds that I did some damage?

Check the water level. If it's still up around normal, your probably ok.

I do the same as you Chris, and my battery is now into it's 3rd year of life. I have one truck with a solar trickle charger on it 24/7 and the original batteries lasted 8 years before requiring replacement. My guess is your charger tapers off to lower amps as the voltage climbs and your battery should be fine:)
