Wired George Coil mod?

Wired George Coil mod? was created by Born Dead 2
Hello all,

Well it has been a while since i've been on this board, to many projects going on these days. I even had to re-register with a new account since I couldn't get my old info back.
Anyhow, I am wondering if anyone would know about this WG coil mod. I'm thinking about doing this to my bike which is 76 KZ900, but it's a kickstart only with no starter relay or kill switch. It's basically chopped and all the wiring has been done all over. The reason I want to do the mod is, bike is running good, not lean or rich, but my plugs are black and sooty(dry). I'm running pods with a custom exhaust which I built from scratch. Like I said it's not running rich, but I haven't checked the coils yet. I am wondering if anyone would know if the wiring is different for a kickstart bike or if the mod will even work.
Thanks in advance
BD

The modification will help greatly in combustion efficiencies. www.wgcarbs.com is his website.

More than a few guy's here have done this mod to their bikes. The modification bypasses the aged, corroded wiring increasing the input voltage to the ignition coils with greater output(spark).

Yes it will still work without a starter. Basically it is an additional switch that puts power to the coils without going through all the connections in the harness other than the kill switch

So instead of running the wire to the starter relay, I run it to the positive of the battery? Everything else is pretty simple in the diagram, just got confused with the starter relay. Also I'm not running a kill switch, just ignition.

I would think you would run from the battery rather than the starter relay, and the trigger from switched ignition. Could be wrong but that sounds logical to me. Make sure fuses are used also.

Like I said it's not running rich

...

Since your running with a custom exhaust w/pods... Just wondering how you determined this?

Also, in measuring your coil voltage, have +12.5Vdc or higher?

If so, this WG wiring isn't going to do a damn thing for you...

Well, since I rebuilt this bike from the ground up and last year it was running A1, and the bike is running like it always has, not bogging or popping or acting like it was out of tune. Just noticed after I rode for the last month the plugs were black sooty(dry)not like the origionals I took out after the tuneup this season which were tan in color. So I thought it was a rich mixture. So tuned it again, carbs are in sync but I haven't checked the coil voltage since I've been riding, not wrenching. So I came across this mod and thought I would check it out. I will check the voltage tonight.

Someone crapped on your question? I read all the posts and cannot see (or smell) the crap. Thank Crom and Mitra for that! Do ya think maybe we are being a little too sensitive here?

Yeah I just edited my post after reading it again. Sorry about that, just in a pissy mood nothing to do with you folks tho'. Thanks again for all the input and thanks to OMK for the post. Didn't mean to bark at you just not being pleasant.
Just wondering if this mod actually works well and wanted some feedback, but I will check the voltage at the coils to start.
That is all.:woohoo:

If you just do the mod you will not question it later. If you don't do the mod you will . If you have the proper voltage that good, but these are old bikes with old harnesses so in my opinion you can't go wrong. You may have voltage now but what about in six months. By the way mine has been done for quite awhile now and I did mine as preventative maintenance because I hate chasing electrical gremlins.
