Does anyone know where to get replacement auxilliary driving lights that will mount in the spots where the pursuit lights were on my KZ1000P? I've seen plenty of pictures of P models with clear lights but can't seem to find anything in searches on google or here...

Doug, Get to know your NAPA store owner! NAPA carries sealed beam spots in a WIDE variety of sizes and has one that fits this application. You CAN use amber or clear and not run into problems. The other thing you will want to decide on is that some of the spots have smooth glass and some have ridges. I can't recall what the point is but the ridges effect the light dispersion in some way. Measure the diameter of the pursuit lamps and get down to NAPA. They won't stock them but can have them in the store in a day or two. I wouldn't ride around in TX with blue/red in the front or rear as the cops do notice that. If you need to ride, put some masking tape on the pursuit lamps. The spots are available in 3.5", 4", 4.5", 5" and are in strange places in the NAPA parts books... but they are there. If I rode a cop bike, I would use amber spots as these confuse SUV drivers in front of you and cause them to pull over into the right lane on 4 lane highways and let you by! hehe Oh yeah... note what wattage the pursuit lamps are and don't exceed this value...

Thanks WG (again!), I have a NAPA just a few miles from the house. Problem with mine is there are no lights mounted there now so I'm not sure what wattage they should be, but maybe my Clymer manual tells...or a call to the Hollywood guys could surely answer that. The light amber ones sound like the way to go. I wanted some more light in front of me for me to see better as well, so maybe the clear are the better way to go for that...

Look to see what fused circuit the lamps are on. If they are on their own dedicated circuit, make some assumptions. If they are on a 10A circuit and you have use 35w lamps, then you will be drawing 70w. By applying Ohm's law, I suggest you will be drawing about 6A. You will be fine with 35w lamps. If you go with 55w lamps, then you will be drawing nominally 9A and that is a tad close to the rating of the circuit. It isn't just the fuse but the bulb holder and wires that need to be considered. If these lamps are on a shared circuit with other electrical components, factor those in as well and decide what is best.

I have had both amber and clear spots. I have used plain lens as well as fluted and for the MOST light get the clear and non-fluted lens. I have had the headlight go out and rode home in total darkenss on the amber spots (35w) and they are not especially bright. I think the white ones would have been better for illumination but the amber were cooler so I used those!

Thanks WG! I sold the 550 last night so I'll have some leeway on getting the stuff I need for the cop bike.

Thanks also HWMS. I'll be contacting them with plenty of questions.
