'76 KZ900 Rectifier

Does anyone know where I can get a rectifier for my KZ900 for a reasonable price?

Shucks, I just put one up on eBay today...good working unit, but not sure if it is compatible with the '76 KZ 900.

Jeff Saunders at Z1 Enterprises sells a regulator/rectifier combo unit that is reasonably priced. Check with him...he probably has a stand alone rectifier, too.

Z1 has them for $90-$100. Unfortunately I need one also (different type than yours), and none of the bikes being parted out in the site classifieds have rectifiers that'll fit either of our bikes.

Bikebandit wants ~$280 for the OEM rectifier for my bike. Jeff's prices sound a lot better compared to that! :ohmy:

Please let me know if you find a cheaper source. I should call the local bike salvage yard...

This r/r unit is one of the most popular for the early KZ1000's and KZ900's as it is a plug replacement - and reasonably priced. I've been using the equivilent one on my turbo bike for the summer and it works great.

The cool thing about the one Jeff sells is, like he says, it's a plug-and-go thing. I couldn't spend $90 right now - too many upgrades :whistle: so I got a 86 Ninja reg/rec at the scrapyard for $30, and wired it in with some guidance from Loudhvx.

It starts & idles fine I'm about to take it out on a test drive with running lights. I'll let you know how it goes...
I cut the old connector of my regulator so I didn't have to harm the main wiring harness, wired the stator and brown wire into it and added an extra fuse on the brown wire for added security but it's REALLY straightforward otherwise.

Well, she runs like a charm, with headlight, blinkers and all. Seems like the power supply is actually more consistent but I might just be imagining it. I get a very steady 14.5 reading accross the battery terminals on idle. The headlight is bright even when on idle (did already do a H4 conversion couple of weeks ago... night and day)

That's good stuff. I'm kind of a stock bigot, so I'll probably just call the local boneyard and try to find an OEM one, and failing that I'll buy from Z1.

You should post something about the reg/rec installation, though, since I'm sure a lot of people would benefit from the information.

By the way, how much did you spend on the H4 conversion? My headlight SUUUUUUUUUUCKS, but it might also just be the reg/rec not feeding it properly.

I think I paid just under twenty bucks for the conversion kit, bought on Ebay from RicePaddy. The have these kits on there all the time. Mine worked great even with the stock reg/rec setup.
