CLeaning fuel tank? \"Evapo-Rust\"???

Anyone ever used this product? Results? Problems? Sent the other half to parts store for another product and this is what came back. Let me know guys, please.

the only problem is it's a bit expensive because you have to submerge the item in it for a few days. it's not like one of the cheap acids that you can just slosh around in the tank for half an hour.

if filling the tank is too expensive, you can throw in a gallon and turn the tank every few days to cover all the inside surfaces.

there's no problems with the product. it's everything they say it is.

I have actually used the product. I bought 1 gallon for around $20 dollars and I must say it did work well. I let it set on each side for about a day. The top was hard for me to get sealed up so I put glade press and seal over it and some tape. The tape then ripped some of the paint off the next day so I hope you have better luck.

Use product as is. Do not add water. You may soak longer if you have lots of rust. Will no hurt rubber or any of the gaskets in the petcock.

I washed with water a bunch of times to get loose crap out then soaked in evapo-rust for about 20 minutes a side more. Removed product, did not rinse with water, then let the tank bake in sun for a day or so and then install and added gas. Good to go!

I've been following this post and i going to try the evaporust. My question is if you only use one gallon how did you get the rust off of the high part in tank that goes over the frame?

i cleaned my gas tank by filling it with 4 gallons of sugar beet molasses. if using only 1 gallon, i can only guess that partly filling the tank with washed chunky gravel might work.

Hummmmmm.... sugar beet molasses??? is that any cheaper than evaporust?

i like the evaporust cause you don't get flash rusting.

when you rinse the molasses out of your tank with water, the water then causes flash rusting. so you have to rinse the tank with acetone immediately after the water to stop the flash rusting. the acetone can damage the paint if it spills.

you can't buy sugar beet molasses in a grocery store, but you can buy sugar cane molasses there. i hear it doesn't work as well, but it's easily available and cheap.

they both work the same way and are equally effective in removing rust. all said and done, the molasses is cheaper but i prefer the evaporust, cause you don't have to worry about flash rusting and it's more convenient to store. it's a pure liquid.

the sugar beet molasses is a slurry. it comes in a bag and looks like coarse sawdust that you throw into a pail of water and stir it every day to keep the stuff in suspension. or pour it into your gas tank, and slosh the tank around occassionaly.
