About my carb & best way to clean it was created by godfatherpart99
Recently, my 1979 KZ400's engine stopped working, and i think it happened because of some wrong with the carb. Last time, she got a problem with the carb in last winter. i just took her to motoshop, and then they cleaned the gas tunk and carb. After they fix them, she was running well, but same problem happened again this summer because i didn't drive often. So i think i need to take the carb and clean it again like last time, but i wanna try to fix it by myself. So please anybody teach me how to do it and what i need for it. I wanna save her life and drive it again. Thank u.

How long did the bike sit unused?
If it was for a long periode of time, it could be that the fuel has gone bad. I would try the simple things first :). Like draining the float bowls and the fuel tank. Then put on fresh fuel on the tank, and also add some Seafoam to the fuel if you can get any. Also put in a new set of spark plugs and make shure the battery is charged.

What Ibsen said. Do you have a manual? Unless you were born with the knowledge you will need a manual to disassemble carbs. Manuals are essential to anyone doing their own work. Try get a factory and a Clymer. If I am not mistaken somewhere on this site is a KZ400 manual for download (I think).

Thank you for giving me good opinion. Actually i do have motorcycle owner manual with me,but it doesn't say about how to fix a carb. My KZ400 has been unused like 2 weeks or so. Do u think engine could stop working even its been not that long sice last time i drove?Anyway, I'll try the way ibsen22000 taught me first, and then I'll check how she is gonna be. Thank u!!

Once you do get a manual...

Barryman's Carburetor Cleaner works wonders. I left mine sit in there for a week on each carb and they came out squeaky clean. Just wash of the carinogenic stuff and dry and you'll be all set with getting the gunk out.

Then comes the adjustments and other things that I'm still working on.
