Need Help. Cleaned carbs now no starting

What kind of fuel filter?  Common car filters have a lot of restriction, and are not good for gravity feed fuel systems.  You need a motorcycle or lawn mower filter.

Some mowers have fuel pumps and wicked little paper filters that will stop flowing on a gravity feed system.

Well everyone, I think I've got it but I'm almost embarrassed to tell. 

Thursday morning I installed my new Delkevic exhaust then fitted the intake rubbers back on. I hit the start button and it cranked and cranked but nothing. I gave the airbox a few squirts of starting fluid and it slowly fired up and then revved to the moon. I shut it down immediately and then tried starting it again and it fired up and again revved to the moon. Since it was revving way up, I pulled the throttle cable from the holder on the carb but left the barrel end in place. BOOM, it fired right up. I put the cable sleeve back in the holder and fired it up and it idled but was still slightly high. I backed the idle screw way out and it still didn't drop to where I thought it should be. I tightened the adjuster at the throttle grip all the way so it was bottomed out, and it was still slightly high. Last thing, I grabbed an adjustable wrench and very slightly bent the throttle holder down until the idle stopped dropping (maybe 1-2mm down). And now, as soon as I hit the start button it fires up and runs like a dream. Revs up well and sounds great! 

I knew the carb rubbers not being on would not help it run but with them on a few weeks ago it still didn't want to fire up. I knew there was something simple going on and I'm so happy its running well.

Thanks for the heads up on the filter. I got an Edlebrock 3" aluminum carburetor fuel filter with a 40micron cleanable element from Autozone, but I'll grab a motorcycle specific filter.
