ok - here is a simple one - the air box hoses connecting to the carbs...they are curved.   how are they supposed to be set up?  curved upward or to the outside?  .

They curve outwards, the carbs are wider than the airbox

so, from the carbs they curve inward, but from the air box, they curve outward

I assume it is just a tube to let air in to avoid creating a suction?   So maybe it doesnt matter?

It is a vent and it does not care. However, that small protrusion next to your finger in the first picture does care which way it is oriented.
By the way, if you click the Insert All button before submitting a post, the pics will show up full-sized in the post and readers will not have to click on them too see what you are asking about.

So Far:
New spark plugs - this made it run on 4 cylinders rather that 2 ... there is hope...
New Stator (Ricks Hot Shot)
New Regulator/Rectifier (Rick's Hot Shot)
Carburetor - torn apart cleaned in detail - all new o rings
New Carburetor mounts and boots
Rebuilt Petcock
Gas Tank Float cleaned / new gasket
New fuel lines, vent tubes

The Good News - the bike runs like a champ.... it started up in the first crank and drives like new ( at least from the engine perspective)
Bad News - Electrical Issues still ... I started a new thread in the appropriate section...

Thank you everyone for your help _ Love this forum!!!
