Service Fuel Level PSA was created by Mikaw
Not to sound beyond the FSM, but I never read past the Service Fuel Level spec until today. It was posted in another thread and I had never looked at the 650 FSM. Upon reading the service fuel level procedure I started to question it. The 650FSM states to bend the tang down, this closes the valve sooner lowering the level. That didn’t make sense so I pulled out other FSM’s to compare. The Kz1000 manual dated December 1977, word the same procedure as opposite, bending the tang down closes the valve later and raises the level. Which one is correct? I pulled out the Z1/Kz manual dated March 1977 and it words the procedure same as the 650 manual, with one exception, just below the paragraph is a photo of a set of carbs. They are upside down bowl up, this completely validated the 650 FSM. So, the PSA here is, regardless of carb orientation bending the tang towards the float needle closes the valve sooner and lowers the service fuel level. Vice versa, bending the tang away from the float needle keeps the valve open longer and raises the fuel level. FWIW.

Definately up to lower the level and down to raise it.

Bending the tang to the needle valve direction lower the fuel level (close earlier).
Bending away from the needle valve raises the fuel level (close later).
