I pulled the trigger on the CB750 petcock from Dennis Kirk and it seems to fit nicely.
As i feared, the gasket on the old petcock was petrified.  if the new one didn't fit, or i had just taken it off to measure, there is no way it would seal to the tank again.

I've never used an entire CB750 petcock as a replacement but if it fits...
I just rebuild my petcock with the CB750 4 hole gasket. If the rubber oval seal to the tank is leaking that can be replaced with an O-ring of the suitable size.
