I found a few threads that the Z1 air box will fit the '77 KZ1000. Does anyone have any pics of the setup? Will the box fit with the KZ side covers or do the covers need to be modified? Thanks in advance guys.

I did this on my 1980 KZ1000, which shouldn't be any different than yours. You can see in the following photos how it fit. I have no support under mine, but it doesn't seem to be an issue. A Z1 has a horizontal support underneath the air box. I think the Z1 airbox supplies more air than a standard setup so be prepared to richen up your fuel a bit to compensate.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Thanks for the fast reply and pics. I sent you a pm so disregard. Does the crankcase vent tube fit good and the same height?

Yes, it fits fine. But as I mentioned earlier, there is no support under the airbox like there is on a Z1. It would be easy to make one though. I was just too lazy.

I have a Z1 air box on my KZ1000 and it works great. VERY easy to remove the carbs....plenty of room. There is some support as it rests on the battery brace behind. The oil breather pipe provides a little also........no problem at all. Side covers are no factor.

Thanks for the info and pic. I've been looking at pics of KZ's with Z1 air boxes. I surmise the Z1 uses a different filter than the KZ? Here's a 'pic of a '76 I found.
