VM choke plunger replacement

I'm rebuilding the carbs on my Z1R (VM28) and thanks to zed1015, I was looking to replace or rebuild my choke plungers. It wasn't something I ever thought about in the past.

It has been noted in other threads that common aftermarket replacements don't have the pin in the end. I was ordering parts from JetsRus.com and noticed a choke plunger replacement in the parts list for the VM29, and the picture on the page shows the pin.

I figured I'd take a shot and ordered them up. Sure enough, they do have the pin and seem to pretty much match the vintage parts. At $8.36 each, they seem like a reasonable option. Although I don't know if they use Viton, as zed1015 uses.

Nice find. I notice they appear to have a different type of bend/lip/crimp holding the rubber in. I do not know if that would have any effect on how they work or not. Just something I noticed.

I don't think that will be an issue. I have test fit the new parts and I don't see any issues with fit or function.

The rubber seals against a round boss at the bottom of the tube. You can see the impression from this boss in the rubber of the original part. The boss diameter is well smaller than the crimp diameter.

Is the plunger shaft diameter the same top and bottom?

Do not get me wrong, I think you have found a winner. In the limited amount of research I have done it appears that the vm22ss, vm24ss vm26ss and the vm28ss use this same part. So for less than $9.00 ea this sounds like a good deal.

Those are either from a batch of NOS Mikuni or recent Chinese copies.
Either way at that price i'd be wary of their long term ethanol resistance .

Hi Zed, thank you, I will email you when I am at carby rebuilding stage for details to get the ball rolling, I will also require your air correction jets for pods as well. VM24.

As an aside, we here in Oz are lucky not to have ethanol forced on us by the Govt. We can choose from 91 94 or 98 RON or if you like E10.
Generally speaking the only people buying E10 do so because it is a few cents cheaper per litre, I personally wouldn't put it in my lawnmower!
