Sounds like you are making progress - great !

regarding those thingies between 1&2 and 3&4 - well you got me there as I dont seem to have them on mine. I did check the kawasaki website - owner info, parts diagrams, select 1983, 750 etc and they could be part # 92005B which are described as "fitting,air vents". Check it out. I wont swear to this but if they are described as air vents then I wowuld think they should be uncapped ?

What is the function of the caps on top of the fuel mixture screws? is it to repel dirt or to create a seal?

I think it was to stop people messing with them once they were set. I also think it was a US thing since it did'nt happen here or in Europe.
From the posts I've seen here most people seemed to have removed them.
