Carb ID help, please was created by buddyro
Hey all, my bike is a 77 kz1000. Not sure what my carbs are, but they are not from the same bike. Can any one help, or suggest a way for me to research this.

26s would be my guess ,unless they are an old set of 29s with 26 bowls.;)

wireman I think your right, 26ers would be my guess because of the fuel tees between 1/2 and 3/4, with what looks like two vents on the top, and overflows on the bottom cups, my old 29 smoothes had one fuel tee center of 2/3. Least I think it did.

76 VM26... They are missing the bracket that connects the four tops. It served no purpose and tends to rust so most folks would have a tendency to pitch it. The air screws are the give-away. The 77/78 VM26 had pilot fuel mix screws on the bottom towards the front (engine side) of the bowl. There is a faint and hard to read ID mark on the flange of the outside carbs: Z12 00 with the Z12 on top and the 00 on the bottom. I will attach a pic of what these carbs look like with the top bracket installed.

I wondered about that top bracket, I left it off a set of 26's and kept it where I could fine it, but I my self couldn't see a use for it other than maybe to help hold things together better under vibration. It just seemed like a useless step forgotten anyway. Glad to hear your input on that wg.

If my memory serves, the early 77 KZ1000 carbs also had the bracket or perhaps it was the 77 KZ900A5... anyway, I can't see where it did anything. None of the others had the bracket or seem to need it. Those 76 carbs are virtually identical in a lot of ways to the zillions of GS750/850/1000 VM26 carbs sold as well as the VM26s on the KZ1000s from 77-78. None of these used the bracket. The bracket looks OK if polished (well, fine wire brush wheel) and then sprayed with acrylic laquer which is what I do on the sets I rebuild. The clear laquer is necessary so that the darn thing doesn't rust up again quickly.

What I thought I would do after you refreshed my memory on the bracket, was to take it along with the other parts I was gathering to take for chrome plating. Might as well keep the 26 carb set together.
