z1000 jetting probs

1980 z1000 ltd 4-1 marshall k&n type pods,
still running standard mainjets (127.5) as expected bikes running lean at full throttle on plug chop, however at other rev ranges particularly idling the plugs soot up, my air screws are set correctly and the ignition system is functioning correctly, i was expecting a leaning out across all throttle ranges, bike will start with or without choke again indicating richness, also getting hissing through 1 or more of the carbs worst on cyl 4, any ideas - cheers mat

Maybe the choke plungers are leaking, have you pulled them and checked for damage? You'll also hear a lot more intake noise with pods, so if you don't have any other vacuum leaks it may be normal.
