installed clean carbs bike won't run was created by bri2144
Hello all,

I just installed my newly-cleaned BS-32 carbs, but the bike won't stay running. It goes like this: If I leave the petcock in the PRIME position the bike starts and runs, abeit with gas dripping from the over-flows. When I switch over to ON or RESERVE the bike runs for awhile (a minute or so then dies). Also, with the choke all the way out I'm idleing at around 5000 RPM, and with the choke plunger all the way in I'm idleing at around 1500 RPM atleast that is until it cuts out and dies.

I'm getting fuel flow through the inline filter and I have a vacuum line connected from the petcock to the carburator.

Help!!

thanks,

Brian.

did you change/check the float levels, also, are you sure the vaccum line is good?
choke sounds normal, you have to play with them a bit for a few minutes til the bike is warm and can idle without the choke. dont let it rev that hig when cold, only put the choke on part way, its not simply on or off(like a light switch), its a gradual thing as the lever is moved

wiregeorge rebuilt the carbs--so, I'm sure the float levels are good. Also, I reinstalled the old vacuum line, but it almost seems too small (diameter). I had trouble installing the vacuum line to the carb connection--in fact, I could only get it half way down the stem, but it is on there tight as hell. Could this be my problem.

I was just looking at the Kawi parts diagram and I believe I hooked my petcock vacuum line up to one of the vent tubes--it's too dark out to know for sure. Can someone tell me exactly where this hose is REALLY supposed to go. this a BS-32 carb assymbly on a kz650h2.

thanks.

Terry, The hose connections page you cited on my web site won't help much as this is a BS32 assembly. I relabeled the page you noted as a VM connection page and added a BS series carb connection page:

Hopefully, this will help!

Thanks for the picture WG. I DID have the vacuum hose hooked to the vent fitting. I moved it over to the #2 vacuum fitting and the bike is running like a dream.

Thanks!!!

Uh oh!!! I spoke too soon!. the bike still runs great but now it's leaking fuel into the airbox when it's parked--even though the vacuum petcock is not in the prime position.

I already mentioned that the needle/seats on ANY carburetor are not perfect and NOT intended to shut off gas perfectly if the bike is parked. If you are getting gas in the airbox when parked, your PETCOCK diaphragm is DEFECTIVE... repeat THE PETCOCK needs fixed or replaced. I personally use GRAVITY feed petcocks which positively shut gas off when in the off position and have no agravating diaphragms to fail. www.z1enterprises.com can set you up with the correct bits to replace your petcock OR sell you a rebuild kit for your current petcock.

Thanks WG. I ordered a gravity petcock and adapter plate from Z1.
