The bike is a 1975 kz 400.

The main jets don't screw in like the carbs on my 650. They keep falling out and I don't know how to remedy the problem. One of them stays in with a friction hold. The black ring around the jet doesn't seem like a typical oring. How would you rememdy this? The pictures show the jet that I'm talking about.

I believe the o-ring in question *is* a typical fuel-resistant o-ring.

It seems you are missing a part, or perhaps it is not in the picture. There is a piece of metal that -- if I remember correctly -- holds that jet in place.

See part # 35 under here:

On my '76 carbs, it's a friction fit. My belief is that the black thingy in question was a regular o-ring 30 years ago, & I replaced them with o-rings from an assortment I got at Pep Boys. It was a pain to get 'em back in with the new o-rings, but so far so good.

Thanks. I'll try some orings and fab up one of those pieces to see how it works.

story,

On my carbs, part 35 holds them in. It's a bit of a juggling act to get the bowl back on without disturbing part 35 and having everying fall out again.

Umm. Duh. Please excuse my earlier brain failure. Part 35 does, in fact, hold the jets in on mine as well. The new o-rings on the jets do make them less prone to falling out, though.
