I've finally got a chance to start going over the new bike real good this weekend and I saw the carbs say Mikuni on the side so how do I figure out which kind they are? These are on a 79 KZ650, did they only make one version for the 650? Would a picture of the carbs help? Will the model # be on them somewhere?

They're more than likely the 24mm Mikuni carbs, but YA...a pic would help, just to be sure. The 24's have distinctive body-lines molded into them,as opposed to the 26's and bigger.

Yip...demmer 24's...You see the 3 lines(molded) on the outside of the slide area...those are the obvious lines I was talking about.
I haven't seen ANY other set of carbs that have those lines.:)

24's, got it. Thanks for the help. Next question is how much of an upgrade is this over stock? I'm not really looking to make the KZ fast but I don't have a desire for the KZ to be fast but just curious how much this bike was modded by the previous owners. If the 24's are a mild upgrade then I might not have to worry about the motor being built so it kills longevity. Supposedly the bike dynoed 74 whp last year after the carbs where synched and jetted. My gsx-r 750 cures my need for speed so the KZ will be for comfort and cruising.

I believe the vm24's were stock on the 650's in the late 70's.
