How to Identify a Carb was created by KZer
Hey Carb Guru's!
Any idea on how I identify what model of carb I would have on my '77 KZ650B? They appear to be stock, cuz when I disassembled them (just removed the bowls), nothing looked tampered with (except the float level). I installed pods and was told that I would need to re-jet them. Help?

They look like Mikuni 24's 2 me.

They are 24's...off of a 650,I believe.The lines on the bodies are a dead give away.B)

IF they have standard jets, what would I need to tell my local dealer what I need to replace them with so I can get a proper mixture? I just spent a pile of money and time rebuilding the engine's top end and I REALLY don't want to go through that again because of a lean fuel mixture.:S

Main jet sizes vary from #90 to #102.5, the jet needles and needle jets are different and other internal components from one type VM24 to the other.

What size jets are in those carburetors now?

The size of the jet should be stamped on it.

The main jets are screwed onto the ends of the main jet holder tubes. Hold the tube (which is screws in) with an 8mm wrench and use a large flat blade screwdriver to remove a main jet. Use a small flat blade screwdriver to remove a pilot jet. Some pilot jets have an additional #50 barrel type jet screwed in over the top. If you have these, remove the barrel jet using a flat blade screwdriver then remove a pilot jet beneath. If you can't read the small numbers, it is often helpful to use some steel wool and polish off the surface as they do tend to get cruddy. A number will be stamped on the pilot jet of either 15 or 17.5 and a number will be stamped on the main jet of either 90, 92.5, 95, 97.5, 102.5, etc.

I cheated and wrapped the pods with an open cell foam and it balanced the air low and keeps the snow and junk from getting in the engine. Maybe will rejet in the spring...In case you're wondering what the heck is this guy doing driving his bike in the winter?! The engine isn't in a bike (per say)...It WAS a golf cart when I started a year and a half ago...
