a KZ305 -> KZ400 parts transplat? was created by primemover
Hi Guys....

I've made some good progress with that set of carbs of my KZ400 project.....

They are all cleaned up and ready to go back together...

Anyway, while working on the carbs (KZ400) I have determined a couple of things:

- Need new rubber plugs
- Need new float bowl gaskets
- Tops of mixing chambers a bit rusted
- a float "pin" was a little bent

and, most importantly

- a "main jet" was missing?!?!

so...

I have a KZ305 (current ride) and picked up an extra set of carbs a while back (to practice a rebuild on).

i've scanavged some parts off that extra KZ305 carb set for use in the KZ400 carbs as follows:

- tops of mixing chambers (have same part #
at "buykawasaki.com")
- rubber plugs (again, same part #s)
- float pin (same part #s)
- float gaskets (same #s)

here is the problem, the part numbers for the KZ305 main jet and KZ400 mainj et are NOT THE SAME, but the parts i have in hand look exactly alike...

Main Jet # for KZ305 = 92064-1001
Main Jet # for KZ400 = 92063-1002

again, the parts look exactly the same (to me?!)...

wonder if it would be a prob to either use on of the parts from the extra KZ305 carbs, or, perhaps use BOTH the mainjets from the KZ305 carbs in my KZ400 carbs (so at least they are the same)....

thoughts?

thanks for you help...

Why not try them and see if it works? It don't take much effort and then you would know for sure.:)

I can only add that there might be subtle differences that are imperceptible to the human eye.

In order to expertly answer your question,, one would have to have either working knowledge and experience with what you're trying to do (which is unlikely) or an expert knowledge of the parts you mention.

I have neither. ;) Really, I'm just bumping your thread...

I agree with steell... I say try it...

Hi guys....

being "new" to bikes myself, i just wanted to make sure i wasn't about about to do a real big....

NO NO!

so, indeed, the jets look very similar and yes, the differences that may exist (if at all) are prob quite small (like maybe the holes are ~5% different in size)....

anyway, i'll be putting that KZ400 carb set back togetehr tomorrow (using both the jets off that KZ305 car set - so at least what ever "differences" that exist will impact both carbs and not just the one side....

did not realize my question was not an easy "Yes/No"....

thanks for your time...

will let you know how it works out...
