Hi all,

I am guessing someone has done this, but didn't find anything when searching archives.

With the prospect of splitting cases on my 550 on the horizon, I am planning on a stand to make disassembly and assembly easier.

My thought is based on other internet stuff I saw. Obviously, when you use a single stand with two mounting points you cannot remove the bottom case as it is pinned to the lift mount. I saw a variety of shortcuts that I didn't like. With two stands you can mount the engine on both upper case mounts allowing the bottom case to be removed. the K&L MC 25 is similar, but $$ IMO.

My plan would be to join two of the stands. The plan would be to weld a smaller width box steel rail to the one of the bottom rails so that it would slip onto the the second stand and be width adjustable. I am no real fabricator and would have a shop do the welding.

I will be checking on the width of that bottom box rail and what size piece would be needed to slip in and be strong.

From the pic imagine two stands facing each other with the bottom rails making love and you'll have a idea of my plan :woohoo:

What say ye and has anyone done so already?

R

This is what I use and I like it a lot!
The only problem I have with it is that the square tubing that the engine brackets slide on is thin and no matter how tight you get the set bolts, after a while they will slip when you spin the motor so I have to be careful.
I am thinking about pushing a 7/8" hard wood dowel that is shaved a little into them to keep them from flexing, should work well IMO.

they can be found on sale right now for under 200

whats nice about this stand is cleaning the crap off before it falls into your engine and the fricken heads come of so easy.

if you dont mind modifying two of the 750lb HF stands you can make an easy rotisserie. easy enough to find a pan that will fit nicely underneath it for catching stuff, too
