Parts cross reference

Just by Googling the part number does not mean the part is available. All you're doing is accessing a parts database with that number still listed.

Without physically seeing the two different parts, you can do process of elimination. Look up surrounding parts, if they are the same on a differnt bike then there's a good chance the part you want to replace will work. For example, say I'm looking for front pads. They are discontinued for my bike but there are other models that have the same caliper and same rotor, so those pads might fit. Kawasaki includes bolt and shaft measurements too which is a great help.

If you already have the part number type it into the field and select "Part Number" This will give you a list of bikes using the same part.

I've entered the part number into the part number field and I understand that it lists the compatible bikes which use that part number. I'm just confused that I know the OEM float part number for my bike is 16031-031 but when I enter the part number and it lists all the bikes that use that float, the KZ650 B1 is not listed. That threw me... I'm guessing that it's because Kawasaki no longer lists the exploded view for the carbs, just the whole assembly. That's just a guess though.

I think Ron Ayers is updating their database because they keep adding bikes daily newest to oldest. They have the lowest prices on OEM parts I've seen so far. There WAS one other dealership (can't recall the name) but they removed the Kawasaki fiche since. Ron Ayers also has reverse part lookup.

I use the K.I.C. (Kawasaki Information Center) for crossing.
That part number,16031-031 is shown in the attached pic,and it shows your bike.

Cross referencing part numbers on the Kawasaki website requires some footwork to be sure.

The cross reference is not a list of bikes using the same part. It's a list of parts diagrams where that part number appears. You still have to go to each individual diagram to be sure that part number is used on the bike in question.

Some parts diagrams will list part numbers for several years worth of bikes. So a given part number may appear on a diagram, but won't actually be used on the bike for which the diagram is intended.

Hypothetical example:
1977 KZ650 uses stator part number 1111.
1978 KZ650 uses stator part number 2222.

The diagrams for 1977 and 1978 specify:
1977:1111
and
1978:2222

A cross reference for part number 1111 will make it appear that both bikes use 1111.
Also, a cross reference for part number 2222 will make it appear that both bikes use 2222.
But the bikes share neither part.

All the cross reference means is that the number appears on the diagram, even if that bike does not use that part.

^^^ It's a little confusing, but you see that on Suzuki diagrams. Not so much Kawasaki. suzuki will list 4, 5 and 6 bikes on one fiche, but list different part numbers for each year. So when you reverse search a part number, it will retrieve all the bikes listed in that fiche. Even though they have different part numbers and the part you are searching will not fit. They are a royal pain in the ass to navigate.
