Fabricate plug protectors, bolt to valve cover?

Damn, i hate to hear that! What a bunch of pricks....Id break a bottle into fine shards, roll the porcelan part of the plug in hi temp glue then glue the fine shards of glass to the plug....you can use clear glass. it wouldnt look all that bad and next time they grab a plug they slice their fingers up...

but that might make them mad and smash something else...

another thing to do would catch them red handed if you can and and break their kneecaps....

or call the cops....


surely the protector plates are the less violent way and easier....good idea.

The answer is easy - you need a one size fits all plug protector:

Make yourself a potato cannon and hide in wait for them

Pop one punk in the back of the bean with one potato and they'll scatter like rats from a sinking ship.

I like Kidkawie's idea. Just head over to your local Dodge dealer and order two of those. They won't be interested in fiddling with those enough to smash your plugs, when the next victim is right down the street.

How strong are these? ....twice they perp has taken a red clay brick and smashed it into the side of the bike to break the spark plug. He hit it hard enough to chip a piece of one of the cooling fins, and to chip a few pieces of red brick off, and leave dust everywhere.

I'm not sure how strong they are, it's been a while since I have seen a set in person. If memory serves, they are thin sheet metal. My theory, is that it might be enough deterrant to make the crackhead move on to the next bike. If they did break through, you could fabricate the same thing out of 1/8" steel, and that would seem to stop them. You could beat on 1/8" all night with a brick and not break it. Bend it, yes, but you would have hell getting to that spark plug. It would seem to protect you at least as much as the plastic farings on a newer bike.

the plug boot heat shield is just that. a heat shield.
it won't protect your plugs from damage.
there design was to prevent excessive heat from melting the boots and causing misfiring.
gm cars have them as well.
i think if you make some kind of plate for the bike you should patent it.
i'm also thinking it's just one person doing this to you.
whoever it is knows where you park and that it's a easy target.
i know what i would do to persuade them to stop messing with my bike but that's just me.
your going to have to catch them and confront them one night.

and a shot to the knee with a ball bat or .22 target pistole would make them REAL easy to catch.bj

If you are serious about solving the problem there is IMHO only one legal way to do it, but it will cost a few (not too many) bucks. You need to set up a camera and light on a motion detector. Motion detector spotlights are sold at Lowe's/HomeDepot stores. Get a video of whoever comes near or touches your bike. Chances are very good that as soon as they get near the bike and the light comes on they will walk away without touching it. But if they do screw with it you have something to show the cops. Trying to shield the plugs is not going to stop them from screwing with them, it will only make them want to rise to the challenge. And if you are successful in armoring the plugs so they cannot be damaged, the buttheads will simply damage some other part of the bike. Once they are on video they may be reluctant to further damage your bike because they will understand that you know who they are and have some evidence on them. Ed
