who needs snap on was created by PLUMMEN
working on a doo san forklift today that one of the operaters managed to rip one of the steer wheels completely off of,after many hours of working to get remains of bearing races out of the freaking hub and off the spindle :S i go to stick the wheel/hub back on only to find the spindle is jacked up! :angry: :angry:
another 1 1/2 hours filing and sanding on the spindle to get bearings to slide on.
then i go to install the damn nut and washer which ends up being a round nut with holes punched in the top for a fancy spanner wrench or socket,which we didnt have! :angry: :angry: :angry: :angry: :angry: :laugh:
so being the basically cheap bastard i am i made my own out of a scrap piece scrap iron(thank god i work in a foundry! :woohoo: )i through in a lathe to carve out the center,couple pins in the end and carved a hole in other end for a socket to fit into.
brazing the steel socket and cast iron together was a bitch!

When I saw the title, I thought "Oh no, a Snap-on horror story, who builds anything of quality any more."

I'll have to get some pictures of the two damaged Kennedy (Made in the USA) toolboxes that I just received over the past two weeks. :angry:

Snap on is the only way to go if the boss is paying for the tools. Somtimes though a piece of scrap aluminum and a grinder is all you need to get the job done.:laugh:

Well for you professional mechanics, machinists, builders etc... I can understand paying out the gazoo for tools such as Snap On...

But for the rest of us garage mechanics/bike builders, Hell, Harbor Freight tools work just fine.... ;)
