Getting the right welder

did you run 10 ga romex to those plugs?

You know Plummen, I don't even remember. I did pay an electrician friend to do it for me. I hope he did it right.....

There's a place on Ebay that has the hobart handler 140 for 419.00 hows does that sound guys?

That sounds like a deal. Hobart=cheap Miller. It usually won't have the infinantly variable wire speed and volatge like a Miller, but still highly recommended. Good price at $419, but check the shipping cost. Sometimes that's a gotcha with the welder being heavy.

If it's a refurbished one from Toolking, it's probably a good deal. I bought the Handler 140 from them a few years ago for $399. It was refurbished but I couldn't tell. Everything was like brand new, not even a scratch.
The shipping from them was dirt cheap. Something ridiculous like $10.

The 140 has infinitely variable feed, but the amperage is in 4 stages.

i wanna say i paid between 600-700 for my 170 from tractor supply co,but thats been probably 6-7 years

Mine was about $580 shipped (next size down from Plummens)7 years ago, but then I spent another $80 for the tank.

We'll see guys there's a few dudes on craigslist that have the Lincoln generator welder. Which is what i would like, something I can run my wirefeed off of, and I can buy a buz box and do tig

I sold a brand new Lincoln mig welder that I was going to use to weld patch panels in my old cars. Damn, gotta get another one some day. I have been arc welding for around 30 years and also brazing. Only never did any tig and would love to do some of that one day.

as long as its got reverse polarity dc which it should you can run a tig off that lincoln

Has anyone tried to weld aluminum with DC? How bad is it?

The Hobart claims aluminum MIG capability on the Handler 140, but most reviews I've read said to stick with steel or stainless on the Handler.

FYI, just ordered the MIG from Eastwood and in a week should be able to give a review. I've got a bottle of mix and some mild and stainless steel welding on my bike that I need to do. In 2 Sundays I should be able to have some welding done.

Also, price shipped (plus a .5 lb of black power coating powder and a quart of rust dissolver was under 500.00 and this includes the welder, leads, regulator, auto-darkening helmet, and welder cart. Infinite heat and speed adjustment so should be pretty good. Anyways, need to weld on a tank and some stainless exhaust canisters. Hopefully in time for a ride I'm planning. Or I'll end up on the plastic bike .
