The rebuild begins. GPZ750 or KZ750R1 was created by GPz750KS
I started som time ago collecting parts to rebuild the 1982 GPZ750. But now since the accident I think I'm going a different direction. I am going to call it:
The 1982 750R C1. Or also known as ELR Replica (C1=Clone) It wont be a 1000cc,but for now it'll have to do. I am still looking for a replica. S1/R2 either will do.

This is what I started with:

Hopefully I'll get close to this:

I've got the new tank, fairing, sidecovers and tail section at the painters. I've ordered the Blue, white and gold decals from reproductiondecals.com. The mechanical items from the accident I've found on Ebay and most everything should be ready to powdercoat by the weekend. The seat is also getting the ELR treatment and the wheels should have the spokes painted gold by Friday. I found a set of ZRX Piggyback shock to replicate the ELR shocks which I cannot find anywhere.
A few pics of found OEM Parts:

I've even found a pair of Kerker Muffler emblems to replace the stock Kawasaki.

I'm finally getting around better and wanting to get excited about something other than sitting around rehabilitating. I think this will be the best form of rehabilitation for me anyway. The Hell with the Doctor's.

Can't wait to see your progress as things move along. Hell with the docs, you should have seen the look on my surgeon's face, right after she pulled three stainless pins out of my hand, when I said... "how long before I can squeeze the clutch again?"

Richard...I'll be watching this resurrection with interest! I love R1's (and ELR's)...where in the hell did you find the original pipes?!??!?? I've been looking for a number of years now (let me guess...eBay?). If you want to part with the original exhaust emblems, let me know.

BTW, there is a S1/R2/3 clone on eBay right now:laugh:

I might part with the new pipes. Yes, they came from Ebay. Almost Perfect. Just showing some age. A little dirt and some surfaace corrosion. can be easily cleaned and polished. I think I am going to put a 4 into 1 on the bike instead. I have $50 shipped in them and will consider the same if I decide not to use them. They are marked KZ750R and had very little exhaust through them. The original owner installed an aftermarket pipe after 2500 miles. They sat in a closet for the past 20+ years. No scratches or dings. He still had the original KZ750R1 he bought new.

Keep me in mind for all those bits (little and big) that you might want to move along to fellow GPz owner :)

Can't wait to see your progress as you move through this project. The best of luck to you!

I'm working on a project GPz currently as well. I'm looking for a few parts as well if you're looking to pass anything on to a fellow GPz fan.

Progress has been made. Just left the painters. The bodywork is perfect. Right down to the correct stripes. I had them painted instead of decals. The decals would have been more authentic, but I like the paint better.
I'll post some pics tomorrow when I'm able to pick them up. It should be done around the first of the year. I'll inventory what I have left over and post them for anyone needing my spares.
