Apologies to anyone who subscribed to this - there has been frighteningly little progress - but I aim to start chipping away at this once again now. The bike was in my brother-in-laws and I just couldn't get out to it as much as I would like. I have since bought a little shed and moved the bike so it's now home with me.

I did do a Compression check - the engine was turning over fairly slowly - but I did get a consistent 75 psi across all cylinders

75 psi = 5,20 Bar across all cylinders is a way to low.
Check the valve clearance and do a pressure drop test.
