First pic is not very clear; I found it in an EBay auction. But it was clear enough for me to see which models were available in 1983 in order to fulfill the goal I had in mind when I started this thread. Take note that it is a Canadian brochure.

I got the second pic from a Facebook group about and it shows the details of 1983 KZ1000SS.

Hope this helps...

I’m still not sold on the SS version. I’ve done a few searches and the only result that comes back is this KzR thread. Any follow up on this?

I think that KZ1000SS is the marketing name Kawasaki used for the 1983 KZ1000 (in Canada at least); it’s what you can see on one of the picture I posted above that comes from 1983 Canadian brochure.
However, I believe the alphanumeric identity is KZ1000J3.

A friend of mine has an ELR he is going to be selling soon.
He expects it to be going to Japan though.
I should have some better pictures of the ELR, but this is the only one I can find so far:

A few years back i ran into a guy stranded on the side of the road on his KZ1100R.
Gave him a boost and followed him home.
He has since sold it, but may know to whom.
Might be able to trace that info down.

GPzs are nice.
Another buddy has a couple 1100s, one in blue and two in red I think:

I must say, it pains me to remember my ELR being stolen back in '95. It was my Pride n Joy, a real dream bike. Then I see someone neglect & mistreat theirs like it was a 440 LTD/cafe/fighter/brat bastard :(

Don't be ridiculous! It's only a flesh wound!

Craig, sorry as I just saw your post. No, I did not find yet the bikes I'm looking for. Those KZ1000 & KZ1100 are very hard to find (even the non "R" versions).
I do have some "wanted" ads on Marketplace and Kijiji. I had some replies but nothing concrete yet.

Where are you located?
Any chance you sell your KZ1100R ?

81-82 and 83 SS kz1000J models are very hard to find nowadays. I’m also finding out parts are not easy to find . Some parts are interchangeable between kz1000 and the kz1100 CSR LTD’s and Spectre but that’s only little parts. After 4 years of looking finally found a 82 kz1000J2 and will need full restoration for $1800.
The R models of found in any shade are high dollar. $10k plus for a project full restoration to $18k for a nice rider and $30k for a mint condition.
