I’d like to thank all the members and this forum for having so much info I was able to put this bike together and mod easily.
This is my first kz and these photos are from the first ride.

Please if you have any questions or suggestions let me know.

I bought the bike in October for 300$ as you can see in the last photo. It was torn apart and labelled into box’s by a mechanic who started the project. Here’s a list showing what I bought and what it costed. I am around 1000$ all in and probably 40 hrs building on weekends.
Costs
-300 for bike
-168 for Shinko tires and new fork seals
- 20 for fork oil
-60 for mounting tires
-53 home made paint booth (very handy to have)
-40 for roll cage paint (used for frame and parts)
-103 for front and rear signals and brake light, headlight, seat and grips ( Amazon)
-20 for front shock rubber boots
-10 for small battery used in alarm systems
-76 for uni filters and led flasher relay
-100 for the wrap on the tank

$850 total but I’m sure I missed a few things so let’s say under a grand.

The exhaust wrap, bars and bar end mirror I had from a previous build

Not bad at all! The KZ400s make really cool café bikes...
That was the plan with mine but it was such a low mileage sweetheart I couldn't cut it up. Bought a XS650 Special instead.
Enjoy!

It looks like a fun project, but it's not a cafe racer. A brat and/or tracker type of thing, yes, but not a cafe.
