Hello,

I recently purchased a 1982 CSR 1000 that I will be doing some maintenance and small modifications to in order to get it ready for spring. This is actually my first personal roadbike. Never got my M license but I have a ton of riding experience. Yes, I'll get the license before springtime. Waiting on some parts, but here's how it currently sits.

The current plans are:
Removed the Clip-Ons and installing Clubmans
Raising the headlights and electronics up (PO had them moved down)
Clean up the cables/wiring
New pod filters/Tune the carbs
Eventually make a custom seat (no more king/queen)
Fab up some rear-sets
Wrap the Kerker 4-1 exhaust

Looking forward to browsing the forums and getting to know everyone!

How much??? If you keep the stock seat on there you don't have to stop on the longer rides to stretch your legs.

Wow, nice find. I guess the PO felt that less night vision and a cramp in his back was a more comfortable riding stance.

I owned a 81 CSR years ago, and it was a monster in stock form. That was the roughest bike I ever sold for top dollar in my life. :-) $1800.00 cash and he was drooling. lol (rusty wheels / spokes, broken fins, etc)



Putting it back as close to stock with the air box will probably turn it back into the fire breathing monster it once was. Here is mine just prior to selling it.

You think? It seemed easier than refinishing with ceramic coating. Whats your reasoning for thinking it will finish it off? Moisture?

I'd like to eventually get a non broken stock box, just gotta source one.

Looks Good! I'll ride the club-mans for a little bit (friend has a set laying around) and then get a lower rise bar for the long rides.

yes sir it is easier which is why you see it used so much..
but, the heat wrap holds moisture and the heating and cooling exacerbate the problem.
a media blasting and some header paint is pretty quick and easy,then in a few years depending on how you store your bike you may have to redo it.
a good ceramic coating is the best bet.but it's all in what you wanna spend your time and money on.
you currently have a nice clean bike and imho pipe wrap would cheapen and add an amateurish touch to it.
hard to beat a flat black kerker on these old beasts.
i submit my own bike as an example.

Gotchya. Like I said, this is my first road bike and it's hard to not apply what to do to my cars (been building turbo 4 cylinders for a few years). Personally I'm not a fan of how wrap looks, but it has helped a ton with heating on my cars which both have the manifolds ceramic coated.. Those aren't subjected to moisture that often once built (weekend toys and track cars). I've had bad experiences with the autozone exhaust paint chipping away in a short time frame. Like you said, can't beat a clean ceramic coating! Then again I doubt I should have any issues with the CSR.

Thanks for the input. Been going through a lof of member threads and it's pretty inspiring! That's a good looking Z1R!

thanks for the kind words.
as you can see in the pics it's time for a re-blast and paint on my header section.
my rear megaphone mount cracked.so i pulled this meg off of the shelf.but it was chrome,so i blasted and painted it black to match.now to get the big kerker emblem riveted back on.although i've been toying with having a stencil cut and painting the kerker back on this meg.a lil bigger and bolder perhaps :evil:

keep us posted on what you do with your bike.i think your is one of the better looking j-models i've seen.

I've seen some newer Kerker emblems that seem to be a lot larger than what is on mine; maybe you could source one of those?

Last night I pulled the gauges and indicators in hopes to clean up their routing. Pulled the front side markers and will re-loom and solder the connections. PO used the twist plugs and it drives me crazy. I need to source a fender and new tail light also. The one currently on there works, but looks terrible in my opinion. I'll upload some photos tonight after i put the new bars on.

Tried out the clubmans and already ordered some Drag bars to bring them up and back a little bit. They feel okay, but I know long rides will be terrible with those. . Going to raise the gauges and headlight when they arrive. Cleaned the carbs, Installed some Dynoman Performance K&N Rep filters, and tuned to them. So far so good! Going to fix the leaky fork seal and possibly get new rear suspension. Ordered a rear seat cowl ,PN: 14024-1267, to install (hoping I can make it work without having to cut it up) and fabricate a new seat to. I'd liekto find a set of canadian/euro cam covers to remove the evap system, but worst case I'll make some cover plates.
