I have started my first ever bike project ,I have always been more of a car guy and thought I would share the expierence and hopefully get some good advice from all the nolagable members on this great forum..

I wanted something a bit different and found this spectre for sale on eBay motors about 1 1/2 years ago I then had some one import it over here to Australia for me.
Which took way longer to get here then I expected I had to wait almost a whole year before I could go pick it up

Here are some pics of my bike the day I picked it up

And so the tear down begins
The bike is in pretty good shape for its age but the paint on the side covers is not the best
The paint on the fenders and the tanks is in real good shape though

Motors is out and frame is almost bare just the front wheel and forks to go
This is the worst rust on the whole frame it's in pretty good shape I think

Frame all stripped ready to be powder coated

The motor looks pretty clean except for some of the original paint/powder coating starting to flake off and an oil leak from the front of the cylinder head were the timing chain seal is, the motor is going to get a good strip and inspection so I can repaint it and replace all the seals and gaskets, I will also replace the rings if required.

Swing arm is all nice and shiny waiting for new bearings to be installed, I got those and a bunch of other parts from partzilla

I used some threaded rod and a couple of sockets to fit the new bearings
Swing arm fitted

Got a new vin sticker done by bdesign
Vin sticker on, new steering head bearings fitted and powder coated lower steering head

The front forks got stripped, cleaned and polished, the paint was in pretty good condition with only one bad chip near the sticker that I might just touch up, fork seals were replaced and new boots fitted

The project is coming along very nicely.

Did you notice the error on the VIN sticker? The end of line 6 should read "3.25 H 19" not "3.25 H 1."

thats looking great, alot of work there..I just picked up an 83 spectre 1100 in similar shape. I like the fork boots, reminds me of my XT500 I sold awhile back to help finance a more roadworthy cycle.
