I had some time last weekend, I was able to re-unite the engine with frame.
Got my son and a mate to help get that big fella back where it belongs - took a bit of sweat and jiggling but it's in! :woohoo:
Cupla pics to prove it (otherwise it didn't happen - right...?)

Next step is to fit carbs (still finishing off the rebuilds with all new jets, o-rings, needles)
Exhaust (Delkevik full stainless 4:1) is arriving next week!

More pics to follow in a cupla weeks.

Looking good, keep up the good work.

I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

Yep, I think that only the US/Canadian models had the short rear guard -
the one on my bike came from a repro mob in the UK (LPM).
The European version was also released with the long guard.
I must admit I like the shorter guard but this wasn't available at the time
and I'm trying to keep the bike as close as practcable to its original appearance.
Mind you, it'll have a non-std exhaust which departs somewhat from the original.
(BTW the Delkevic 4:1 exhaust arrived yesterday, looks great and I can't wait to get it fitted! )
Ordered this from the QLD distributor last Friday - pretty good postal service!
Cost me $569-95 (including GST and postage).

As promised here are a few pics of the Delkevic full SS 4:1 on my '78 Z1-R.
Very high quality system - welds are superb and the whole thing fits really snugly with nil mods required.
Delkevic don't actually have a dedicated system for Z1-R but the one that they sent which is for Z1000
fits perfectly - the footrest bracket for the silencer is P/N PR 2544 and is designed for KZ650 and KZ750
but it is spot on fit for the Z1-R.
The kit comes with a tube of high temp grease to assist with assembly, a spring puller
to load the collector to pipe springs and a centre stand "stopper' - yet to fit this as I don't have a z1-R stand yet.
Anyway - progress is happening!

Yep, well spotted - it' a 79 Z1000A3 MK11 and is the motor that came with the basket case when I bought it.
Maybe if someone has a spare Z1-R motor they'd like to swap for my fully refurbished MK11
donk then we can do a deal? :silly:

The US bikes all seem to have shorter fenders, I thought my bike had a LTD rear fender, before I realized it was the Z1000's I was used to from the UK that had those long fenders. My Japanese built KZ650B1 seems to have longer fenders front and rear.

The bike looks great with what you have so far. I like the exhaust too, while the original would be nice to have, that one looks much better IMO.

I have the original exhaust system but the headers have all been hacksawed off the collector box and the muffler is RS! I can get a replica muffler and can probly restore and re-chrome the headers. But this will take time and $$ and I want to get it back on the road early next year. Will look at doing the original exhaust further down the track.

Made some progress recently - got the carbs rebuilt and refitted - will do the fuel level test when I get the tank back.
Got the bodywork back from the painter - cupla prelim pics also - will take some more when I get a chance to set 'em all out before refitting.
