Dammit Josh, now you got me thinkin about choppers  I guess I'll have to buy one of those useless half-helmets and grow a Paul Sr mustache! Seriously Bro, what a score.... I definately vote for the spokes. Looks great with the stock kawi tank. WTG Bro :)

maybe you could cut a cavity inside the tank by the frame tube. put all the wiring stuff in there. You won't need much gas (because you won't be able to stand riding it very far) and I know you don't need a battery or a starter... just push it or kick it.

Well, Mr Marneman, you do have two bikes don't you? Honestly, I wouldn't do this with a good stock frame, but this is a bespoke frame, so I don't feel like I'd be hurting too many feelings. See, even 650ed didn't chastise me, and we all know he's one of the biggest rivet counters on the site. :P

Nelson, I feel like this bike would almost have to be a bump start or kick only bike. I guess I'll be consulting Lou's wiring diagrams. Minimum is the one word answer that would guide this project.

you could try something I considered doing on mine- Narrow the tank about 1" by cutting a strip out of the middle and welding back together. It would appear to make the motor look bigger because it would stick out farther past the tank on both sides. Most people probably wouldn't notice the tank had been modded, they'd just see that massive motor. I really like the idea, but decided it was more work than I wanted and I didn't want to lose any fuel capacity.

with that single tube backbone and the kawi tank being for a triple back bone you should have all kinds of room under the tank.

josh,
you have to know from riding bicycles that having hydraulic front forks can make a rigid rear end feel a whole lot softer.throw in some properly matched seat springs and about 18lbs of rear tire pressure, dodge the bad bumps .........
they are never gonna be a long haul rig,but fun for lurking around the local spots.
kinda like sneeking the go cart out of your neighborhood, if ya catch my drift.

Sneaking the go cart out. Oh yeah, been there, done that.

BTW, you can't see it from the pics but that tank is in two pieces. It's totally trashed. The sheet metal in the top is so stretched from a dent that I could never fix it. I would have to find another tank, but I threw that one on there just to see what it would look like.

Some inspiration for you, started as a Z1000 Ltd. No skid plates etc needed, we build chops out of Jap bikes here in the UK all the time and our roads are pants. One post said the sports bike front end was weird????? It's just different and will give you infinately more adjustment, although I do prefer spokes so i'd stick with them. Dead right about radiators on chops though, air cooled is the way to go, here's mine.

Just curious if any KZRider members know what the process of getting an Indiana title is like for a home built motorcycle with no VIN number?

Yes, this is me resurrecting my own dead thread from 9 years ago. I am allowed to do that, right?

I"m legitimately interested in seeing if it is worth the trouble to build this chopper frame. I won't fool with it if the title work is too cumbersome.

Each state has its own set of foolery with laws and inspections.Few states simply change out the paperwork with no inspection, some do. I know of folks who buy "antique documents" from eBay for their titles in a pinch like yours but as always buyer beware and if your state has inspections you will need a factory stamp set and you are also BREAKIN the LAW BREAK BREAK BREAKIN the LAW. and you still gotta get a frame going. But I spent tons of hours to get my frame looking like this this winter(trike project)
