If you have a Z1-B, then it came without an automatic chain oiler. Kawasaki used an O-ring chain which did not require continual lubrication.

Thanks, I just dug out the sprocket cover and confirmed that. There was alot of sluge around the sprocket so it's either chain lube or the c/s seal is leaking. I'll have to keep an eye on that later.

Finally remembered my camera, here's some of the work over the past coupla days. The engine looks ALOT better than the pic. What a pain cleaning that thing. If/when I ever tear into the engine I give it a proper polishing.

Various parts blasted, primed and waiting for paint.

This a very cool project, I really like the pic of you and your dad on the bike. I wish my dad had kept his bike. When your done keep the bike and pass it down to your kid. very cool.

Thanks. Yeah, I hope that's what happens. I have a few more photos like that. Here's one my Mom took of me riding him around on his F9-

You can't do that stuff nowadays. lol

Got the engine installed, left the engine bolts home "Doh!"

No scratches!

Got a little more cleaning done today, and remembered to bring the engine mounting hardware.

New plugs and mounted the coils. Still waiting on more paint to arrive so anything that's painted black is on hold. Which is a total buzz kill right now.

Took the carbs apart and they were worse than I thought. I got the bodies cleaned, you can see the difference with the nasty bowls. New kits on order.

The hub is cleaned and polished along with the brake. Cleaned and greased the brake pins, cleaned the inside of the brake and installed new wheel bearings.

Just got settled in after a trip to the Dominican Republic. FINALLY made some more headway on the bike.

The new replacement rear rim was not butt welded correctly so I had to lace the rear wheel twice. The Ebay seller I bought them from was nice enough to send me a free replacement while I was away, but the rims are not the best thing out there. Good enough for now since I'm on a budget.

Got some small parts painted and started running the electrical. I thinkI might play around with that zinc plating kit tomorrow on some hardware and parts like the wheel spacers.

Installed the swingarm, the pivot bolt and bushings were like brand new so I just reinstalled them instead of upgrading to needle bearings.

That Eastwood plating system works pretty good. I sandblasted the parts, then rinsed them in mineral spirits, blew dry and repeat. 4-5 minutes tops in the electrolyte seems to work the best for these sized parts.

Very nice work indeed ! Congratulations. That bike is worth preserving. Stock is best. There are far to many hackers in this world. Please keep us updated. Here are a couple of Z1B's I had.

HT8R, I hope my bike comes out as nice as those! My Father got rid of the original pipes for a 4-1 and I just don't have the budget for originals. He also replaced the original airbox with K&N pods. I do have the original airbox, any advantage to using the pods?

That zinc plating kit is worth it's weight in gold. It only cost $70 and replacement axle adjusters are $45, I still have alot to re-plate. I like nice fresh hardware so I'll save a bunch of money refinishing that nickle and dime stuff.
