Trying to decide if I should sell it or restore it. Kinda new at this so any feedback would be helpful. Is it worth it or not?

Here's another picture of the bike. I have more of them. Right now all I can see is that the top cam chain idler sprocket bearing is bad and needs replaced.

Well Bob, unless you have one of several desirable models (in which Police models generally don't belong) restoring is a labor of love...rephrased, it will cost you more than the bike is ultimately worth. That said, most of us on this site know this :) So, if you are looking to make any money or break even, you might not be able to do it. However, doing a bike to ride is another matter...

What's the history of the fairing and bags? I don't recall seeing these on another KZ. Looks nice like HD FXR pieces.

Frank;

Not sure about the history on the bags. They are Kawasaki bags, mount right on the factory carrier. I will tell you though that I am having a very hard time locating another Kaw with the same type of bags on it.

Anyone else seen these before on a Kaw?

The fairing and bags are not standard Police issue. Kawasaki had optional/standard bags available for a number of models for a number of years and they may be these. The front fairing is not Kawasaki....looks Shoei-like.

Hummmm, it would then mean that the bike was repainted and pin stripped at some point, everything matches, paint looks to be original (in my opinion). Wish there was a way to find out some history on the bike.

I did check the frame serial # and motor serial #, both come back as 1978 C1A Police.

It is odd though that the other pictures of police issued bikes have different saddle bags and front fairing.....this bike still has the support bracket for the siren mounted on it near the lower right crash guard, I have the original speedometer and tach with the pursuit lights......like I said, wish I knew more about the history of the bike.

Thank all!

you could get into a bit of $ quick...a buck here a buck there...without knowing what you paid for it ,it's hard to say what a guy should do.....the police bikes got ridden a lot, sometimes pretty beat on by the man too.....there are a few nice examples/cleaner ones that range from 1500-2300 around my area of cali...i don't know which years were more desirable, but you have an kinda early years cop bike with add on hardware/bags ect...you may wanna get another cop bike owners opinion/expereince before going to far into $....if it is just to have a project to work on as a hobby then your in good company....running good it will scoot down the road and be a bitta fun...good luck....
they seem to be common right now for sale with like 30,000 -55,000...this won't be the case forever i'd imagine...peace

Sorry Old Man, it is a 1978 KZ1000-C1A Police addition bike. Not sure why it came out the way it did on the title, as you can my cap L looks like this and the small l looks like this.

Perhaps the font style on the forum......not sure.

Thanks Tri,

I haven't invested anything yet, still trying to decide if I want to sell it the way it is with a spare motor and frame or restore it before I sell it....hummmmmmmm.

If anyone "may" be interested in purchasing prior to me investing anything in it, please reply to the forum. I would consider it.

Thanks.
